Fund Objective

The goal of the Dynamic Alpha Fund is to generate strong absolute returns while maintaining capital stability. We aim to achieve long-term inflation-beating growth.

The Dynamic Alpha Fund has never had a negative year since its inception in December 2014.

  • The calculation of net returns and the risk measures comprises data from the inception of the Peregrine Capital Dynamic Alpha en Commandite Partnership on 1 December 2014 until 31 July 2016, thereafter the data relates to the Peregrine Capital Dynamic Alpha H4 QI Hedge Fund (“Dynamic Alpha Fund”).
  • The Dynamic Alpha Fund does not have a benchmark and does not contribute towards the return of the ASISA South African Multi Asset – Medium Equity Category.
  • The South African Multi Asset – Medium Equity Category is defined in the ASISA Standard on Fund Classification for South African Regulated Collective Investment Scheme Portfolios.

Portfolio Managers

Jacques Conradie

Managing Director and Portfolio Manager

Jacques joined Peregrine Capital in 2007 and is a Portfolio Manager of all the Peregrine Capital Funds, while also being Managing Director of the business. Jacques started his career at Old Mutual in 2006, where he worked in the Life Insurance Product Development team, and qualified as an Actuary. In 2005, as a student at Stellenbosch University, Jacques was awarded the Chancellor’s medal for being the top graduating student. He has represented South Africa at the International Mathematical Olympiad and International Olympiad in Informatics, winning Bronze medals at both events. Jacques is a member of the investment committee of the Mandela Rhodes Foundation and is a CFA charterholder.

David Fraser

Executive Chairman and Portfolio Manager

David co-founded Peregrine Capital in 1998 and is a Portfolio Manager of all the Peregrine Capital Funds, while also being Executive Chairman of the business. David started his career at Liberty Asset Management, where he was Assistant General Manager, mainly involved in non-consumer industrial company research. David was appointed Sector Research Head for this area in 1998. David qualified as a CA (SA) in 1994, after completing his articles at KPMG Inc.

Justin Cousins

Executive Director and Portfolio Manager

BAcc Sci cum laude, HDip Acc, CA (SA)

Justin joined Peregrine Capital in March 2013 and is a Portfolio Manager of all the Peregrine Capital Funds. He qualified as a CA (SA) in 2015, after completing his articles at Ernst and Young. Justin was nominated for the Dean’s list at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2006 and 2007.
